Describe the setting
The setting is on the jasper mountains in about the 1900s. The mood and atmosphere of the story is cold and lonely.
Type of Conflict: Man vs nature/himself
Describe the main conflict:
The main conflict is his bad decisions combined with the extreme conditions. eg. when he fell into the river, he knew that if he did not warm up his limbs would freeze, but decided to continues on anyways. he stopped moving though he knew he would die as a result.
Describe the Climax of the Story: The climax of the story is when he was skiing up the mountain to find another cabin, and suddenly decided to stop and take a rest.
How does the Protagonist change over the course of the story?
Throughout the story he is very impatient and always thinks he is able instead of playing it safe. Later when his situation started to look hopeless he began to regret his ego based decisions.

i think the theme of this story is about decision making, and how it affects you greatly.
Describe the relationship between the title and the theme.
the title is "a mountain journey" and i thinking the theme is about making decisions. In the journey there will be many decisions to make, and that is the connection i see between the title and the theme.
How does the main conflict help to illustrate the theme?
The main conflict was him freezing his fingers and this was created because of his poor decision making. This illustrates how decision making can majorly affect you future.
How does the climax help to illustrate the theme? The climax is another example of his decision making. He stopped to rest at a really crucial time in his journey thus ultimately causing his death.

Simile:the snow white and soft as flour
Metaphor: The cold was an old man’s fingers
Personification: Roar of the grey earth
Symbol: the cabins all symbolized safety and warmth for him.
Foreshadowing (give both elements): When he deciding to keep going instead of drying off, this foreshadowed that it was going to cause him trouble in the future. Later he was unable to light a fire due to this.
Irony: Mcdonald lost his feet, but owns a shoe shop.
Imagery: “when he came out of the timber, the moon threw his shadow on the snow, a shadow faltering and stooped as if at minute it would leave him.”
